Abstract

COMMUNICATION BARRIERS IN ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE: IMPLICATIONS FOR COMMUNICATION EFFECTIVENESS AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

Author(s): Vict Men*

Effective communication is the backbone of organizational success, shaping relationships, decision-making processes, and overall performance. However, communication barriers frequently emerge within organizations due to diverse cultural backgrounds, hierarchical structures, language differences, and ineffective communication channels. Organizational culture plays a critical role in either mitigating or intensifying these barriers, directly influencing how conflicts arise, are perceived, and resolved. This article examines the complex interrelationship between communication barriers, organizational culture, communication practices, and conflict within contemporary organizations. By analyzing theoretical perspectives and practical implications, the study highlights how rigid cultural norms, power distance, and inadequate communication strategies can lead to misunderstandings, reduced collaboration, and persistent workplace conflicts. The article further emphasizes the importance of fostering an open, inclusive, and adaptive organizational culture to overcome communication barriers and promote constructive conflict management. Understanding these dynamics is essential for leaders and managers seeking to enhance communication effectiveness, strengthen organizational cohesion, and achieve sustainable organizational performance.
