COMMUNICATION BARRIERS IN ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE: THEIR ROLE IN WORKPLACE COMMUNICATION AND CONFLICT

Author(s): Vicr Mens*

Effective communication is a critical foundation for organizational success, influencing employee engagement, decision-making, and conflict management. However, communication barriers within organizations often hinder the smooth exchange of information, leading to misunderstandings, reduced collaboration, and increased workplace conflict. Organizational culture plays a decisive role in shaping communication patterns, norms, and behaviors, either minimizing or reinforcing these barriers. This article explores the relationship between communication barriers, organizational culture, communication processes, and conflict in the workplace. By examining structural, cultural, psychological, and technological barriers, the study highlights how ineffective communication contributes to interpersonal and organizational conflict. The article further emphasizes the importance of cultivating an open and inclusive organizational culture to reduce communication gaps, improve mutual understanding, and promote constructive conflict resolution. Understanding these dynamics can help organizations design strategies to enhance communication effectiveness and foster a healthier work environment.
